Sustainable development

The aim of sustainable development is to combine economic performance, social fairness and respect for the environment. These challenges have increased with globalised markets and the increase in the world population.

Companies which commit to sustainable development decide on their own initiative to play a responsible citizenship role in the society. Economic growth, social cohesion and environmental protection necessarily go together. They are no longer considered as constraints to be taken into account, but as key investments underpinning company strategies.

The Group, which agrees with these principles, committed to the United Nations Global Compact programme on 14 May 2003. The objective was to reinforce its commitment in the social and environmental spheres by following ten principles
some of which are inscribed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Group defined priority actions and measurement indicators for some projects. The different initiatives which it has thus undertaken are conducted in all of the Group’s organisations around the world.
